The road to Via Dezza began in 1921. After Ponti graduated from the Politecnico di Milano, he started designing decorative ceramicware, created during his time as art director for Richard Ginori (1923-33).

Ponti lived in several houses in Milan, but it is his final home, in an apartment block he designed on Via Dezza, that makes the best starting point for a Ponti peregrination - not least.

Italy's own Gio Ponti (1891-1979) succombed to that hankering: Ponti first designed his 1957 Via Dezza family home in Milan, and then the furniture for it, including an angular upholstered armchair on a linear metal frame. Giovanni (called "Gio") Ponti was born in Milan on 18 November 1891, the son of Enrico Ponti and Giovanna Rigone. 1913. After a classical schooling, he enrolled in at the Faculty of Architecture, Milan Polytechnic, but did not graduate until the end of World War One, a war in which, despite his early poor health, he served on the front line.
